Perkins Observatory was founded in 1923 by Hiram Perkins of Ohio Wesleyan University. It is primarily an active research and educational facility used by the faculty and students of the OWU Physics and Astronomy Department.

However, we do offer public programs (day and night) for those interested in Astronomy. See the Public Programs section below for more details.

We are the only observatory in Central Ohio that conducts hundreds of public programs for tens of thousands of people each and every year!

Please note: We will NOT be hosting a public event for the April 8th, 2024 solar eclipse. We are a small facility and cannot host large crowds. The observatory AND its property wil be closed to the public. There are lots of places hosting public viewing and we encourage you to do a google search for them. Eclipse Glasses: We do have them for sale for $2 each (Tax included). We are only selling them in person and by appointment only. Call 740-363-1257 to make an appointment and let us know how many you need exactly. Please do not come to the Observatory until you have actually made an appointment. Also, please understand that our schedule and supply is limited and is not kept on site.

The schedule and ticket availability may not be up to the minute. Please have alternative dates in mind when you call. Tickets are $10 each ($2 in addition for each ticket purchased on the day of the program or at the door). Tickets may only be purchased by phone with a credit/debit card.
